Dendrobium Orchid

To care for a dendrobium orchid effectively, provide it with bright yet indirect light, taking care to maintain a warm temperature consistently between 20°C to 30°C for optimal growth.

As with most orchids, dendrobiums are epiphytes meaning they typically grow on trees rather than in soil. As such, it’s better to pot in large, chunky orchid bark or attach to a tree ot wooden board with the roots wrapped in sphagnum moss.

Water well once the moss or bark is dry, making sure to drain well. During the active growth period, which typically occurs in the vibrant seasons of spring and summer, it is beneficial to increase humidity levels and feed the plant with a balanced orchid fertiliser every two weeks to encourage lush development.

In the cooler months, it becomes essential to reduce both watering and fertiliser, as the plant enters a vital dormant phase where it conserves energy.

Furthermore, ensure good air circulation around the orchid to prevent the onset of fungal diseases, and consider repotting every couple of years to refresh the growing medium and promote robust, healthy growth.

Additionally, regularly check for any pests, such as mealybugs and aphids, and treat any infestations promptly to maintain the overall health and vitality of your cherished plant.
